Marshall, Mo. — March 18, 2026 — Pi Delta Sigma, the national collegiate journalism society dedicated to defending truth, transparency, and the free press, today applauds the recent federal court ruling ordering the restoration of Voice of America (VOA) operations and the reinstatement of hundreds of journalists.

A federal judge ruled this week that the dismantling of VOA was unlawful, directing the U.S. Agency for Global Media to return the organization to full operation and bring back more than 1,000 employees who had been sidelined. The decision marks a decisive affirmation of the rule of law and the essential role of independent journalism in a democratic society.

Voice of America has long stood as a beacon of credible, fact-based reporting to audiences around the world. This ruling is not just a victory for VOA journalists, it is a victory for every citizen who depends on a free and functioning press.

Founded during World War II, VOA has served as a critical source of news for global audiences, particularly in regions where press freedom is limited. Before its shutdown, it broadcast in dozens of languages to hundreds of millions of people, carrying forward a mission rooted in accuracy, independence, and public service.
